City Begins to Implement Horse Health Surveillance

Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Sub-dept. began conducting horse health surveillance around the core zone of Park Pulomas Equestrian, East Jakarta. 

It will be done thrice. After Jakarta, we will go to West Java on September 1-2 and Banten on September 3-4

It is done in preparation for the establishment of a horse-free disease zone as a condition of obtaining an Equine Disease Free Zone (EDFZ) certificate from the World International Office of Episodes (OIE), related to the 2018 Asian Games.

Sri Hartati, Division Head of Agriculture and Animal Health said surveillance zone is including Greater Jakarta. Its implementation is started from Jakarta on July 26-27.

"It will be done thrice. After Jakarta, we will go to West Java on September 1-2 and Banten on September 3-4," he expressed, Wednesday (7/26).

She explains surveillance conducted is consisting of examination of glander disease, equine infectious anemia, pyoplasmosis, surra, equine influenza and african horse sickness. In addition, vector retrieval (flies, lice, mosquitoes and others) is also done.

It is conducted by involving joint officers of Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security Dept., Animal Health Service Center UPT, Bogor Center for Veterinary Animal Research (BBalitvet), Center for Subang Veterinary (BVET) and IPB's Animal Health Faculty (FKH).

"Especially for Jakarta area, sample target is 223 horses. We also involve other local officers to do this," he closed.
